Behind the Scene
Pleased with my debut novel, and with the 2nd book in the Deception Series in the works, I decided to take a look back at what it took to go from a blank screen to holding my first published novel.

Writing: An Exercise in Learning What I Didn’t Know
Truth is, if I had known all I didn’t know about the writing process, from typing the first word on a blank screen to holding my published novel in my hand, I probably would have looked for another hobby.
But here I am with enough confidence (and friends) to do it all again. Yes, you read that correctly. I have started not one, but two new manuscripts. One is a cozy mystery centered around the Old Ladies on the Loose. The other is the 2nd in the Deception Series.
As an Indie author, I had a dream, not an MFA. I’m sure an MFA would have better prepared me for the process, the scrutiny, and the criticism–constructive or otherwise. But sometimes you have to start from where you are. I started with a dream to become a published author.
Dreams do come true. But dreaming won’t manifest a manuscript. It takes work, lots of work, long hours of sitting alone in a room staring at a screen, willing words to appear.
In the posts that follow, I will share what I learned about the process–the ups and the downs–of writing my first novel.
Writers are avid readers by their own admission.
